主讲人简介:
Peter De Costa 为美国密西根州立大学助理教授,博士生导师。担任美国教育研究协会二语研究委员会主席、美国应用语言学协会执行委员会成员、对外英语教学(TESOL)研究专业委员会成员等职务,主要从事语言学和语言教育研究,多篇论文被AILA Review,Applied Linguistics Review,International Journal of Applied Linguistics, TESOL Journal, TESOL Quarterly和 The Modern Language Journal等国际知名学术期刊收录。同时,他担任TESOL Quarterly的联合主编和多个国际刊物的审稿专家,为期刊担任特约专刊编辑。作为国际应用语言学大会(AAAL)、国际英语教学大会(TESOL)会员,多次组织圆桌讨论会和专题演讲会。2016年,他获得了美国教育研究联合协会颁发的“学术研究之星”奖项。

Course Description and Objectives:
This course provides an introduction to research methods, data analysis, and thesis writing in applied linguistics. One of the goals of the course is for students to develop critical reading skills in this area in order to improve their understanding of published studies in the field. Our readings will focus on qualitative approaches to research in applied linguistics. Upon successful completion of this set of workshops you will:
· develop skills in planning and implementing original research, including the development of data collection instruments and procedures
· experience collecting and analyzing data obtained through a variety of research procedures
· fine-tune your research reporting skills, in both the oral and written modes
· enhance your confidence in your own ability to write professional proposals and research reports.
